Illegal trade in animals in the Czech Republic, analysis and comparison of the Czech Environmental Inspectorate database and CITES Trade Database
JIRKŮ, Renáta
This bachelor thesis focuses on illegal wild animals and wild plants trade in the Czech Republic. The thesis discusses general facts about illegal trade and wild animals products. In the practical part of the bachelor thesis the database of the Czech Environmental Inspectorate and the global trade database CITES are evaluated. It was found that the total number of reported animal captures is different in both databases. According to non-public data from the Czech Environmental Inspectorate, 919 illegally traded specimens were seized in the period of time 2011-2020. On the other hand, the publicly available CITES trade database indicates that 42 seizures were made in the same period. From this fact there are significant differences in the traded taxonomic groups, determined forms and in the level of representation of the export countries from which the specimens originate, etc.
Volume, directions and trends of international trade in poison arrow frogs (Dendrobatidae)
NOVÁKOVÁ, Markéta
Family Dendrobatidae ranks among three of the most tradable families from amphibian class in the international trade. This is one of the reasons of family downsizing. Some of Dendrobatidae species are included in the international agreement CITES appendix II. The aim of this thesis is focused on a trade of the family Dendrobatidae in the Czech Republic and other countries in 1978-2015. The CITES Trade Database was the main source for this thesis. The thesis deals with a development of time-dependent trade, individual tradable species, countries involved in the trade with the Czech Republic, the purpose of the trade and source of trade origin. The most imported species were Ameerega picta, Dendrobates auratus and Ameerega trivittata. The export became predominant compare to the import. Species Dendrobates auratus, Phyllobates vittatus and Epipedobates boulengeri were frequently exported. Species of the family Dendrobatidae were traded alive except for two records. The Czech Republic is dominated by the import of individuals from the wild than captive individuals. The opposite state was proved in case of export. The time-dependent trend is generally decreasing in the Czech Republic.
Analysis of trends in international trade in reptiles
BOHATÁ, Marie
International reptile trade is regulated by Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Informations about these transactions are entered into the CITES Trade Database. The aim of this thesis was to organize log entries of reptile international trade taken from this database in 1975 2014 time period and their evalution. The focus was directed at the trade volume, whether traded specimen were outsourced from the wild or from captivity, and traded forms of these specimen. For better understanding and orientation in traded volume conversion to whole organism equivalents was used.
Data in the CITES trade database and their interpretation
VRŠECKÁ, Lucie
An international trade in endangered species of plants and animals is regulated by CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). Information on trades are available in CITES Trade Database. However, there are a lot of mistakes and discrepancies in this database that lead to inaccurate interpretation of data. The aim of this thesis was to: (1) identify mistakes in the database, record types and their possible ways of interpretation and (2) quantify the volumes of trade based on different ways of data interpretations in selected species of the family Ursidae. There were found 19 different combinations of missing data, except by unlisted unit and traded quantity specified only by one state of the trade and 5 types of record interpretation. Data were compared with the CITES annual records reported by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic. This thesis contains also recommendations for evaluation of international trade.
